No Caps No Cuts to Medicaid
The situation right now
While the Better Care Reconciliation Act is effectively dead for now, the US Senate is still considering repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without a replacement. CTD is one among many organizations that has grave concerns about this bill and how it would adversely affect Texans with disabilities.
Repeal without replacement would still mean a major hit to Medicaid in Texas. Even though Texas didn't expand Medicaid under the ACA, it would see declines in federal spending as eligible people fall off the program. In Texas, repeal means the loss of $16.6 billion between 2019 and 2028. With the loss of federal dollars, Texas would have to raise taxes, cut other parts of its budget (like education), or—most likely—severely cut Medicaid services, eligibility, and provider payments to make up for this shortfall.
You can help!
We're starting a social media campaign targeted to Senator Ted Cruz and his 2018 Democratic challenger, Beto O'Rourke. We want to know how to these two differ in their approach to Medicaid. Tweet or post a Facebook photo to each of their social media pages with your Medicaid story. Here's how:
On Twitter
- Take a photo of yourself with a sign reading #NoCapsNoCuts (see examples to the right).
- Tweet your photo to Cruz (@SenTedCruz) and O'Rourke (@BetoORourke). Include as much of your story as the character limit allows AND the hashtag #NoCapsNoCuts.
- Retweet to CTD @TXDisabilities.
On Facebook
- Take a photo of yourself with a sign reading #NoCapsNoCuts (see examples to the right).
- Post your photo your Facebook page and tag Cruz (SenatorTedCruz) and O'Rourke's (betoorourke). Include your story AND the hashtag #NoCutsNoCaps in the description.
- Tag CTD @TXDisabilities in the comments.
Feel free to do both!
