CTD’s Statement on Charlottesville

August 16, 2017

CTD joins a number of disability rights groups and the larger civil rights community in expressing our absolute condemnation of the racism, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and violence on display in Charlottesville, Virginia August 11 & 12. Our thoughts are with our fellow Americans who are affected by these events, in particular, our friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, care givers, and care receivers of color and of the Jewish faith.

Let us not forget that in Nazi Germany, people with disabilities were deemed unfit to live and were systematically murdered. Any group that espouses a neo-Nazi ideology has no place in an inclusive society. As long as white nationalists view difference as a justification for violence, we all must oppose them.
