CTD40: Kenneth’s Story

CTD Celebrates 40 years

2018 is a big year for CTD, in part, because we are turning 40! To celebrate our ruby anniversary, we present the CTD40 blog series, which will collect stories from our friends, colleagues, founders, supporters, and the people we serve about our shared history.

We at ACBT are honored to be a member of CTD. We extend best wishes for many more years of impactful service.

I initially learned of the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities in the year of 2005 while attending a meeting at my local Center for Independent Living (RISE) as attendees were presented a copy of CTD’s newsletter. Being new to vision and hearing loss, I had someone read excerpts from the newsletter and I was intrigued by the efforts of CTD. Once I became a member, I realized that the entire staff was totally determined to make a difference in the lives of every Texan with a disability. I have had the privilege of attending CTD events, such as rallies that matter, Capitol Day, winning conventions, and the Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival. It has been a joy to join others while participating in committee and advocacy endeavors.

Executive Director, Dennis Borel has a passion to serve and empower everyone he comes in contact with. He serves from the heart. My local organization has been honored with guest appearances by CTD Director of Advocacy, Chase Bearden. Chase is inspirational and committed to causes of Texans with disabilities. I consider collaboration and sharing with others to be the greatest strengths of CTD. I encourage everyone to get involved with the endeavors of CTD and contribute financially to the work they do on an ongoing basis. With CTD, personal independence and productivity are paramount.
