William Greer Runs Chicago Marathon

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is a pinnacle of achievement for elite athletes and everyday runners alike. On race day, runners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries will set out to accomplish a personal dream by reaching the finish line in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois.

The Chicago Marathon was William's 11th. He completed it in 4 hours and 2 minutes.

Through the Chicago Mararthon's Athletes with Disabilities program, William connected with Anita Shankar, who served as his sighted guide. Sighted Guides provide invaluable assistance to visually impaired and blind runners. She made sure Will followed the route and avoided the obstacles he cannot see throughout the 26.2 miles of this race.

A woman in running clothes in mid-stride waves both hands at the camera and smiles enthusiastically.A word from Anita:

I'm excited to run my 4th Chicago Marathon and 10th overall as a sighted guide for William. From what I understand, I have some pretty big shoes to fill (specifically, Peter Sagal sized!). I caught the marathon bug after my first Chicago Marathon in 2011 and have been running the distance regularly since then. I've gotten so much enjoyment and fulfillment from this sport and wanted to find a way to give back. When I heard William needed a guide for the Chicago Marathon, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of one of my favorite races and give back to the community that has given me so much.

I'm hoping we'll have good weather on race day and hit that PR for William!
